Vassilis Galanos

 

Vassilis Galanos is based at the University of Edinburgh, currently finishing his doctoral thesis in which he investigates the role of expectations and issues of expertise in the research and development, policymaking, history, and public portrayals of artificial intelligence and robotics. His further academic interests include cybernetics, information science, and media studies.

He holds degrees in Librarianship and Information Systems (BSc), Information Science and Cultural Dissemination (MSc), and Science, Technology and Innovation Studies (MScRes). He has published in journals such as Technology Analysis and Strategic Management and AI & Society and has several contributions to collected volumes and conference proceedings.

Together with Sarah Bennett, Benedetta Catanzariti, and Yazmin Morlet Corti, he has been involved in the shaping of the Edinburgh Futures Institute-supported AI Ethics & Society research group. He has been the PhD representative of STIS since 2017. Since 2018 he has been tutoring for the undergraduate course Technology in Society.
